I got up early this morning, July 4th, to get one more mat session with Samuel Braga and crew at Gracie Barra, Knoxville. We had a great session with about an hour of drilling leg drags and berimbolos and then about an hour of specific training and free rolling. I have to say, these guys have been super-welcoming and I want to thank all of them for treating me like a BJJ brother! Oss!
Training with Samuel Braga and Crew
At the end of the two-hour session Samuel asked me to do a short video “testimonial” for the school. No Problem! These guys make it very easy to say good things about them.
SO, I’ve been in Knoxville for about two weeks now and I gotta tell ya, I am SORE! Professor Braga runs a solid school here with Black belts, Brown’s and plenty of Purple, Blues and Whites.
Now, admittedly, I have been off my game a bit since returning from Mexico. I first noticed when I stopped by my home school The Ohio Combat Sports Academy for about a week. I was home just in time to catch the Kurt Osiander seminar and then to stick around and catch a couple days of open mats. They were beating me up pretty good. I reasoned that it was because I had been teaching classes more than being taught while I was in Mexico and that they had been training hard for the last four months while I was out “living the dream”.
All of the above is true, of course, but it turns out there was something more happening than I realized.
After returning from Mexico and prior to departing for Rio De Janeiro, I had about 6 weeks to travel around the midwest, USA and get some training in between visits with family. While I was in Michigan visiting my mom and sister I got the opportunity to spend three days training at Triumph Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Grand Rapids, MI, U.S.A.
